For some children, a school trip is something they look forward to every year. For others, opportunities to travel and experience somewhere new can be much harder to come by.
Pipworth Primary School in Sheffield wanted to give its Year 5 pupils the chance to visit London. For many of the children, this could be their only opportunity to visit the capital.
The trip offered pupils the chance to experience somewhere completely different from home, explore new places and create memories together outside the classroom.
But trips like this can bring additional costs for schools and families, particularly when budgets are already under pressure.
Supporting a trip to remember
In 2025, Yorkshire Children’s Charity provided Pipworth Primary School with an organisational grant to help make the trip possible.
The funding helped the school take its Year 5 children to London, giving pupils the opportunity to experience the capital for themselves.
For the children, the trip was about more than simply visiting a new city. It was a chance to see and experience places they had learned about in the classroom, spend time together and enjoy an experience they might not otherwise have had.
We provide organisational grants of up to £10,000 to non-profit organisations, schools, nurseries, youth clubs, sports clubs, self-help groups and voluntary groups across Yorkshire.
Our grants can support a wide range of projects and activities, from improving facilities to helping organisations provide new opportunities for the children and communities they support.
For Pipworth Primary School, our support helped turn a planned school trip into a memorable experience for its Year 5 pupils, giving them the opportunity to discover somewhere new together.
