At Yorkshire Children’s Charity, everything we do is about creating meaningful moments for children living at a disadvantage. Moments that build confidence. Moments that create connection. Moments that remind a child they matter.
At Easter, that moment comes in the form of something so simple: a chocolate egg.
But it’s never just an egg.
For many of the 19,000 children we hope to reach this year, an Easter egg may be the only gift they receive. While Easter can be filled with celebration for some families, for others it can be a difficult reminder of what they cannot provide. Rising living costs mean that small “extras” like seasonal treats are not possible.
An Easter egg might cost £2. But the feeling it creates is priceless.
In schools across Yorkshire, teachers are often the most trusted adults in a vulnerable child’s life. When they hand a child an Easter egg, they’re doing more than giving chocolate. They are giving reassurance. They are saying: you are included. You are remembered. You are cared for.
In the words of one of our teachers last year, an Easter egg is “something that some people take for granted but was a real treat for our children and to see the joy and delight as they picked the one they wanted was priceless”.
These moments matter deeply. They help children feel part of something. They prevent the quiet isolation that can come when classmates talk about what they received and a child has nothing to share. They create equality in environments where difference can feel magnified.
Last year, thanks to the generosity of our supporters and corporate partners, we delivered thousands of Easter eggs to schools across the region. The feedback was overwhelming. Teachers told us about children who carefully saved their egg to share with siblings.
This year, we want to go even further. Our goal is to create more than19,000 moments of magic across Yorkshire.
Our corporate partners are collecting eggs in their workplaces, rallying teams and communities to get involved. But alongside those collections, financial donations are vital. They allow us to purchase additional eggs, fill any shortfalls and ensure no child misses out.
£2 gifts one child an Easter egg.
£20 creates ten moments of joy.
£50 could provide eggs for an entire class.
When you donate, you’re not simply funding chocolate. You’re helping a teacher show care. You’re helping a child feel included. You’re helping create a memory that tells them someone is looking out for them.
At Yorkshire Children’s Charity, our mission is to make things better for children and young people living at a disadvantage, now and for their future. Sometimes that means funding beds, clothing or essential items. Sometimes it means long-term programmes that improve wellbeing and opportunity.
And sometimes, it means recognising that small, thoughtful gestures can have a powerful emotional impact.
This Easter, you can help us ensure that 19,000 children feel remembered, valued and part of the celebration.Because it’s so much more than just an Easter egg
